Scenic Rural Barn Wedding

Recipe for a scenic rural barn wedding:  lake views from high angles, a woodland ceremony, lanterns, silk curtains, pine bough covered barn walls and fireworks.  They are all featured in this wedding video.  I traveled to Vermont to produce this wedding video reel for two longtime camp counselors on their September wedding in the town of Fairlee at Camp Lanakila. The pair met as counselors at Camp Aloha, the girls’ camp, just down the road from Camp Lanakila. The two camps are part of the Aloha Foundation camps and programs beside the scenic Lake Morey.

Together they have a combined 26 years as campers and counselors. It is a very special place to them.

The First Look:

The wedding events began with Jenny and Kendra getting ready at Lake Morey Resort. They choreographed a first look atop Eagles Bluff, above Camp Aloha, with an amazing view overlooking Lake Morey. Sparkling wine was poured afterward for those gathered for the moment.

The Ceremony:

After that, we all headed over to the boys’ camp, Lanakila, where a hidden space in the trees, the Chapel in the Woods, as it is called, provided the setting for their outdoor wedding ceremony. Imagine a quiet place in the Vermont woods with planters, flowers, lanterns and silk curtains detailing the surroundings. Or just watch their wedding video to see it!

A friend of Jenny’s played guitar as guests entered the ceremony site. Keeping with the theme, he played camp songs that they requested. Jenny is an opera singer, so it was fitting that several musical pieces throughout the ceremony were performed by her colleagues.

The procession of the bridal party featured two more friends singing Panis Angelicus.

A recording of a friend singing Songbird, a Fleetwood Mac song, served as the music for Jenny and Kendra’s entrance.

A particularly moving part of the ceremony featured a candle lighting while their musician friends sung A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.  All their guests lit candles and placed them in a sand-filled outline of the letter “M” the initial for their married last name.

The Wedding Reception:

After the ceremony, guests strolled over to the area around Hurlbert Outdoor Center, where the reception began with a cocktail party in a tent, followed by dinner and dancing in a rustic barn on site.

The pair had a surprise for their guests. After dinner, they lit sky lanterns, which provided a nice visual, but also served as a signal to a fireworks crew to begin their surprise fireworks display. Pretty epic! The party continued with music from the band Night Rhythm. The surprises kept coming too- the ladies performed a choreographed dance to Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love”. The evening was capped by a late night bonfire and S’mores at the camp’s amphitheater.
